color field

Ashley Sawtelle’s Color Field series investigates tonal saturation through medium format film—merging analog photographic methods with a modern design aesthetic. Originating from a personal impulse to live among evocative hues, the work reflects a dialogue between environment and emotional resonance—colors that both surround and inspire the artist within her home and studio.

Guided by intuition, each composition emerges from a process of experimentation with light, color, and the inherent alchemy of film. The resulting works are tonal expressions shaped by the movement of light and the organic texture of film grain.

Works from the series may be customized in scale and presentation. Framing is available in a selection of natural, white, or black wood finishes, designed to complement the quiet strength of each piece.

Indigo with white frame

Indigo was created to evoke a calm and mediative state. In Japanese culture the color blue represents the mystical. The color of water, sky, and dreams. This color saturation is the first & last color I surround myself in to provide a sense of peace.
